The service has a total of 17 fire stations in operation, these vary in terms of part time, whole-time and both whole-time and retained combined, currently there are:
The FRS has a total of 29 fire appliances which cover the whole area of Dumfries and Galloway. The majority of these are regular fire and rescue appliances and the remainder are specialist units:
In addition the FRS also has 2 FRTs involved with their training department and 5 as reserve appliances. They have also recently taken delivery of an Aerial Rescue Tender(ART)in line with many other FRS's as a new ininiative to replace ageing aerial appliances by combining a standard pumping appliance with an aerial appliance, the concept is a good idea from an engineering perspective (and on paper to fire boards looking to save money(reduces station establishment by two firefighters)), but the actual practicalities, performance and functionality has led to not many being put on the run due to minor set backs in the design as is the case with the one due to be put on the run in Dumfries.
